Another day of rest

July 7, 2008 @ 4pm in Peru (753 days ago) - View/add comments at Blogger.com

The whole crew was happy to have a day off on Sabbath / Saturday / Sabado (in Spanish). It's great God set this time aside from work each week, ever since creation! He knew we needed it.

Here's a few photos of different ways team members spent the day:

Some went the local church
A few of the local members asked for photos with us once again, here's Fernando with some of them
While quite a few of the crew rented motorbikes and headed out to see some of the local scenery, including waterfalls, lookouts, jungle etc.!
Pepe, our new mate and hotel manager, led the tour on his scooter (which has a disc brake!)
Some of the bikes at lunch time... they still sell these new here
Bev and Carolina headed to a village 3,200m above sea level, which took four hours to get to by road. They gave out the beanies we had brough over to all the kids there.

After lunch the rest of the crew went to visit an Asháninka village, which Bev organised for the team:
One of the Asháninka leaders
And a mother with baby
Marco, a local tour guide from Satipo, with some of the Asháninka people and Rudy, wearing the translator hat in this instance
An Asháninka girl
The boys in the village loved to play soccer. In face, the women and girls were in traditional dress, and most of the boys had soccer jerseys!
One of their huts
Some of the crafts they made. Testing out the 1cm macro on the Fuji S100fs here!
After the Asháninka village visit, we downsized from a bus to a van and headed up to the lookout over Satipo. Some of the crew rode motorbikes
Following the bus, in the dust!
Toby and Gaby enjoying the dusty ride (!!)
The crew at the lookout, on top of the hill beside the town of Satipo
Dan gets some footage on the HD camera
Cousins Chris and Jessie pose for a photo
Here you can vaguely see the city lights (it's quite spread out through the valley!)
A team photo at the end of the day, in the dark!
That topped off a great Sabbath! Now most of the crew was refreshed and ready for a full week of work ahead :-)
