Local tuckerJuly 20, 2008 @ 2pm in Peru (170 days ago) - View/add comments at Blogger.com There were a few comments (thanks Benny B!) asking about how the food was over here, so I thought I'd pull a few random food-related photos out of the archive for you to check out:
The girls (and occasionally a couple of the guys) did an amazing job of feeding the whole team while on the project. Each morning a few of them would head to the markets and buy the food we needed for the next day or so, fresh. Fridges are rare in the town, so that's what most of the locals do!
Here's Danny, Renee and Andrew enjoying a burger or two at lunch!
There were blackouts here and there during our stay - here's Jess and Kate in the kitchen with head torches!
Carolina created a special treat in Bev's kitchen one day. This is a dessert from Chile, I believe. It was nice!
You should head to Peru and try the pizza!! The local pizza restaurant was a favourite with the team
Here are the drinks you see for sale throughout Peru... Inca Cola (the yellow beverage) is the local cola, as well as Coca Cola (of course) and San Luis water. And - they're all owned by The Coca-Cola Company! Nice monopoly there.
Speaking of drinks, here is a load of 2.5L Sal Luis water being delivered to our hotel by motortaxi! The Aussies sure went through a lot during our stay.
One day on the worksite a local family made a typical Peruvian meal and brought it to the work site to try
A typical local meal, with potatoes and another readily available delicacy
There were some lovely fresh fruit juices around, including PiƱa (pineapple)
We were treated to a special meal prepared on one of the days by the mayor's chef. Here she is with Bev! It was delicious!!
Another health, fresh salad created by the girls
A lovely pasta dish
On this day it was Toby's turn to help out - that's a nice healthy salad Toby - you're work colleagues will be impressed!
Another day was sandwiches, with the locally available bread (it tastes different to back home)
Thought this bulk product at the supermarket looked interesting!
Joni grating some ginger
Carolina helping in the kitchen
Joni and Renee and their sandwich factory
Jess and Gaby enjoying their cooking!
This sauce (a local recipe) goes great with potatoes
And lastly, we took over a stack of Weet-bix for breakfasts (most people's suitcases had a 1.5kg pack in it) but that ran out around half way through the project, so we had to track down some locally sold cereals. Here are a few that Nestle sell.
There's a little insight into the food we had there. We really did eat well! A huge thanks to all the girls for their hard work in preparing the food - especially Jess for overseeing the food preparation and Joni for always being there to help out and ensure we had clean and sanitised plates and utensils. | Recent posts
