Random photos from SatipoJuly 20, 2008 @ 3pm in Peru (170 days ago) - View/add comments at Blogger.com I have a few random photos from around Satipo that I thought I'd post, just for interest's sake.
Looking over Satipo on the way up to the lookout. The maroon roof on the bottom right is the stadium that we played indoor soccer in
An interesting interior design on the roof of a motortaxi! Notice the toilet paper hanging up. Every vehicle has some handy...
Almost every motortaxi is customised, some with their favourite photos on the back!
Here we saw one of the intercity buses cruise past, carrying sheep on the roofrack! Look how many different modes of transport you can see here, all sharing the road
They have parades all the time throughout Peru, and here is one
The local Police and security ride around on motorbikes like this all the time, in ones or twos, ready for action. Loz, this bike is an "RTM"!
The welcome sign as you come in to town
There's some cool vehicles around - check out this truck!
Coffee is such a big industry here - and I hear the quality so good a lot is exported to Europe
Coffee by the semi-trailer load
Here we are heading to the work site in a spacious motortaxi!
These motortaxis carry everything... I saw others carrying huge lengths of steel, and even a large tree, dragging along the ground through the centre of town!
A local fair - there were some great rides here!
Many local vendors had megaphones on their vehicles, spruiking their wares as they ride/push their vehicle along
The local police going for a jog
Heaps of kids packed the internet cafes to play first-person shooter games... looks like this is happening everywhere now.
Another parade - much of the town is there
People in the parade
This little dude was being carried along
Elsewhere a farmer is moving a stubborn pig!
Here's the little bird looking after the keys at our hotel
Watching some soccer/football during siesta time
Tired from the hard work, but enjoying the soccer!
Chris and I started the trend of getting a 3 Sol ($1) haircut! Great value :-)
The posters here are all similar - nice and bright
Digging a hole in the road... the safety barrier / signage is a fluoro hardhat
One of the most popular brands of motorbikes in town. This was a new delivery to a local shop
And assembling the bikes
The PARTO(n)S shop :-)
Another great vehicle in town - no doors needed!
And this is one of the few places I've seen floppy discs that are still for sale... with plenty of brands to choose from!
