The work continues - day fourteenJuly 8, 2008 @ 7pm in Peru (181 days ago) - View/add comments at Blogger.com Well during the strike today the streets were a little quieter getting to work - with schools out and not many trucks around... the motor-taxis were still running, so those who didn't walk to the site were able to catch them.
Fortunately all the local workers showed up and headed to work with us (from our hotel - they usually meet us on site) so we were able to continue our work today.
The bricks had cooled down overnight, and were no longer steaming! The morning was overcast, which was nice as it blocked the harsh sun, but it was still approximately 85% humidity, so nice and warm for work!
There were plenty of hands on deck in the morning, so Sam K had a rest - and one of the locals tried out his work belt. They're all want one over here!
Danny and Toby digging a trench - hot work by hand!
Glenn helping to level one of the pads
Jayden back on deck (thankfully!) and in full swing
Andrew removing some of the boxing so it can be reinstalled in the next area
With the strike in place the schools ended up closing for the day and a team of grade 12 students from the Adventist school, and a parent, came along to provide some very appreciated help!
Here are a couple of school students helping to move bricks to where they are needed
There were a lot to move!
Other parents and students from the school even cooked lunch for all of us and delivered it!! The cooked potato and beetroot salad was lovely - I don't think I've tried that before!
Sam K is back - and is helping with the brickwork. It's great to see this happening now!

They're fast workers!
Well that's another day done. The team are really happy with how much progress has been made in our 14 days of building here in Peru. It has been a challenge here and there, but God's hand has been over the whole thing from day 1, and it shouldn't be too long now before this facility is up and running - and helping the kids of this area who really need help!
Thanks again for reading :-)
