The work continues - day seven

I mentioned before that we visited a special school on Monday and met with the teachers, parents and students there. While we were there we also arranged for some follow-up visits where team members can come and help the kids as they do their school work!

We've been allocating different construction team members to take a break from their building work and go along and help out. It's a great experience for them to do this, as well as for the students!

As I was travelling between the two sites when documenting it (as well as carting extra water and Powerade to the team), I rented a motorbike to make this more efficient - it's a great way to get around town!! It's good value too, starting at $1.80 for an hour, $3 for three hours and even cheaper for longer... you pay for fuel on top of that - they give you just enough to ride to a petrol station!
Here is Sam playing some music with one of the students - sounding good, Sam!
Cool shades
Toby having fun helping one of the other students.
At this point I'd also like to give a special thanks to one of my colleagues, Megan, who got together some things to bring over for the kids! This Wiggle's colouring-in book was one of them :-)
Dan B also enjoying some time out from the work site, to help the kids
Now it's his student's turn to wear some cool shades
Dan B and Renée head next door to the other class to help the other teacher out
When we all headed back to the hotel at Siesta time, for lunch, the mayor popped in to officially welcome us to Satipo! He had been out of town for a while when we arrived. There's a very interesting story about that trip which we'll tell you when we get back!
Jayden takes the 150cc rental bike for a spin, and Kate goes along for the ride

Glenn, Joni and Chris making the steel column frames. Team members worked tirelessly making a lot of these - 8 columns each for four buildings. It is quite intricate work!
Danny keeps an eye on Andrew's work on the site while Ben takes a self-portrait!
The column supports are put up
Some of you might find this hard to believe - but here is Lara, pretty dirty after a big day on the job!

It's been a huge effort so far, and everyone has been helping out where they can. Quite a few team members are working on a construction site for the first time - and doing jobs a lot different to what they normally do back home!
