The work continues - day thirteen

July 7, 2008 @ 5pm in Peru (182 days ago) - View/add comments at Blogger.com

Monday was a quieter day here with more preparations for the next stage of concreting.

Here you can see some bricks being delivered - freshly made and still hot!!
Waiting for a quick hose down before they unload them - steaming!
Some locals also brought us some pineapples to eat!
Jayden uses the machete to cut one open
I delivered some water to the job site - they don't have occy straps anywhere here, so I used what I thought was the next best thing - some chain. This worked well until I was riding through a ditch in the road at some roadworks and they fell off the back! All were still intact, fortunately, so I carried them on the fuel tank after that. By the way, each big water bottle here is 2.5L, so they are a good size!
Unloading the hot bricks. The locals wrap their hands with towel and throw the bricks off the truck - 3-5 at a time!
Levelling out one of the classroom pads... hard work by hand!
That's all for now... more to come soon!
